Old Buildings

Sat Jun 3, 2006, 6:53 PM
Well, first journal entry. I don't really know who will read this, or why, what they'll think afterwards.

But uh pictures, yeah. That’s why I joined on here. After seeing a lot of art on here now, I realize I’m really, very primitive with my work, if I can even call it that. Experiments. Trying to figure out what I do like, what styles, colors, frames, subject matters, lighting. I would say it’s hard for a high schooler to have access to the things needed to take great pictures, but I see people with far less than I have taking pictures that surpass mine. By a lot. Instead of letting that discourage me, I’m trying to look at things differently. Almost everything I pass by nowadays, I want to take a picture of.

I was in Los Angelus today for LA works Day, and the buildings in downtown LA are amazing, just old and beat up and imagine taking pictures of that with some good black and white film...It’d be great. And I was in Santa Barbara last Sunday to do some much needed shopping and of course only ended up buying about 5 items, but that’s where I got The Homeless Officer. I hope people don’t think I was making fun of this man who was on state street, just talking to himself or anyone that passed by. Discreetly I tried to get some pictures of people like that and those are some of the few that turned out well. So now, as my photo teacher told us at the beginning of the school year for Beginning Photography, you’ll see everything like it were through a camera lens.

Even walking around town, I find things I can use later in a picture. Kind of dirty stuff, stuff I won’t mention quite yet, but just things I can put in little sandwich bags, put in a drawer and use later for a picture. I want to find a plain white backdrop and just take a simple picture of the items individually. But I don’t even know where to find things like that in town.

So, yeah, this all leads up to now, postponing working on History/Biology/English final projects. Come on, you’ve all been there. Just now the internet makes procrastination so much easier. I would be working on my photo final, but I got the wrong kind of film so now I must wait until Monday and process the film at school and develop them after. It’s going to be really good though, I can feel it. I just need to find a poem of some sort that I can rewrite (I don’t have the best poem skills), making it look like a journal entry and age it, and make it a tree for the beginning of my portfolio book. So any suggestions welcome to that as I don’t really know what I want to find.

And that concludes that. If you stayed through and read all this, I commend you. And if you offer a poem (that will be used for private use, don’t worry), I’ll love you forever.
